The Courtines of Chambray
French Bulldog
Our little farm
Most of our bulldogs are with us, whether in the other house which serves as my office or in the main house I always try to alternate by affinity and in small groups in order to be able to enjoy them to the fullest!
For reasons of comfort and regulations, some no longer live with us and spend a happy life in our other house in Provence or in other homes while others live under a contract of breeding in different families!
The goal is really to offer them the greatest comfort for that I prefer to have a small number of dogs.
None of my dogs are caged in kennels or boxing, they sleep in nice rooms or on the sofa and can go out as they want and spread out on the sun at their leisure whether in the grass or in the yard,
this is how I conceive my small breeding.
My greatest reward is to know them happy!

A few tips before buying your little French bulldog
Having a lot of requests when I don't have puppies available I try to direct families to breeders who seem serious to me.
working with respect for this wonderful breed!
I always try to give advice to families to choose the best breeding.
Breeding:
The choice of breeding is essential and the important points are: the health, the well-being and the balance of the puppies and the beauty!
For this it is imperative to take your time before embarking on this adventure...
Select; visit the different breeders' sites and certain platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, etc.
Contact several farms and do not hesitate to prepare all your questions in advance.
Look at the photos, reviews and comments; don't forget that your feelings are very important!
Don't hesitate to make an appointment for a first visit (avoiding falling in love with the first puppy you are handed) but rather allowing yourself time for reflection.
Once there, ask to see the parents (if by chance the dad is present) in order to get an idea of their state of health and their character.
Tell yourself that a breastfeeding mom is never well to her advantage (weight loss for some, hair loss and sometimes not very happy to see people around her babies)
but one can easily tell the difference between a nursing bitch not too much to her advantage and a female dog in poor health.
Ask to see the whole siblings and not just a puppy brought to you in a room isolated from the rest of the litter or the mother.
Do not be offended if you are denied access to the nursery, for the sake of hygiene and to avoid any risk of germs or viruses, it is best to visit the puppies when they are a little bigger.
A few recommendations:
Do not visit several farms in the same day, you risk carrying viruses and bacteria, if you come from another farm, especially let the breeder know who will be able to give you instructions and the hygiene rules to follow.
Do not come with your animal to visit a farm, it may seem obvious, however many families want to show the new baby to the oldest and see his reaction to him.
This is not the ideal place either for your animal or for the breeder who only sees an animal potentially carrying microbes approaching his puppies...
Dogs :
Look at the living conditions of dogs and puppies, the cleanliness of the premises.
Ask yourself the right questions, for example: do the dogs have space, do they seem happy?
Are the puppies in a spacious, bright place, can they go outside or are they permanently confined in a puppy park?
Find out about the number of litters that the mother has had and the frequency of births (some unscrupulous breeders do not hesitate to bring les femelles to each heat, i.e. every 6/8 months without leaving the necessary rest time for her (namely a rest heat cycle) some females who have not had time to recover from their last caesarean die on the operating table...
A female should not make more than 3 litters during her life, however some abuse it, not hesitating to make 4 or even 5 litters in order to take advantage and abuse as much as possible or pretexting que la chienne is "exceptional" or that it is an "accidental" gestation !
The mother's age is just as important, I keep seeing 7/8 year old female dogs pregnant which is not conceivable in the French bulldog in any case.
Health :
Regarding health, if by chance the parents are tested; do not hesitate to ask what tests have been carried out; ask to see the results, it's easy to say that the parents passed the tests with flying colors without really being able to prove it.
Some health tests can only be done by specialists such as the heart, it is not a simple check cardiac carried out by a veterinarian.
Health tests are not compulsory but the breed club imposes some on breeders in order to to be able to validate certain titles or certain ratings.
the most common tests in the French bulldog are Heart, kneecaps, X-ray of the back.
The most common genetic tests: Hereditary Cataract, Myelopathy degenerative.
No breeder can guarantee to entrust a puppy without worry, but he can avoid certain hereditary defects by making a good selection by avoiding breeding a dog with health problems, thanks to health tests, tests genetics and avoiding marrying two hyper-typed dogs; or with too high a rate of inbreeding (inbreeding fixes certain qualities but also certain faults or problems, this is why it is important to master it well without playing the sorcerer's apprentice).
The costs :
Regarding the price of a French bulldog LOF it is necessary to count minimum 1400 / 1500 euros with an average of 1800/2000 euros but the prices can be higher depending on the tests of health carried out on the parents, the pedigree of the parents, the palmares of the parents etc.
You should know that health tests are very expensive, you have to pass at least 4 or 5 on each breeder.
The winners of the dogs are also important on the price of the puppies, to have a champion or a listed dog it will have been necessary to travel through France and very often abroad with all the costs and sacrifices that this implies !
The matings are not always made at breeding and it is frequent to have to travel several hundred kilometers to find the ideal male, the one who could _cc781905-5cde-3194 -bb3b-136bad5cf58d_be best suited to the female, so the trip must be taken into account (airplane if the male is abroad, train or car, the price of the hotel; food etc).
The price of a projection varies from 800 euros to 3500 euros depending on the breeding, the stallion; his health and his record...
Then come the costs for breeding, caesarean section in the vast majority of bulldogs (between 3000 euros and 1700 euros) equipment and veterinary care, food care, puppy kit puppies, LOF registration, costs , puppy kit 136bad5cf58d_etc etc.
This is why you should be careful with prices below 1500 euros, you risk finding the difference at the veterinarian or at the behaviorist because no or little work of selection is done upstream_cc781905-5cde -3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58d_!
Please note that a high price does not guarantee a quality puppy; some do not hesitate to raise their price without having done anything (tests by_cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b -136bad5cf58d_santé, sélection ou moindre frais) généralement ils vont au moins cher sans se préoccuper de rien ; they just line up with other breeders who are trying to do a good job.
Pet shops:
Avoid pet stores, where puppies are separated from their mother far too early, the provenance is very often doubtful where for the most part the mothers live in sheds where they are intended to make puppies and only puppies, they are places of death where they never see natural light, and are often sick and weakened!
The origin of the puppies in the pet store can also be the unsold products of breeders who cannot find other means of selling their puppies...
Who are these breeders who do not seek to know where their puppies will go? This is for me something unthinkable !!!
Here is what we guarantee by buying anywhere !!! A typical example of puppy mill or breeding in battery with moms lined up who never get out of this hell they have no comfort, relieve themselves on the spot. Everything is well thought out to have the maximum yield!_cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58d
Finally, be careful about tempting ads, there are a lot of scams on the internet and complaints are increasing!
In conclusion :
To have a quality puppy, look for a quality breeding; take your time and don't forget that a puppy who has been pampered by his mother and his breeder has every chance of being very well balanced!
Health and selection are very important but be careful, this does not guarantee having a carefree puppy but the assurance of having a puppy that starts off on a healthy basis!

The excesses of the bulldog and its ravages...
I sometimes have requests for puppies of exotic "color", blue, gray, chocolate, lilac, black and tan, merle ect...
Some people must probably find them cute and rare, but when you know the problems these dogs encounter, believe me, you quickly change your mind!
The breed clubs are there precisely to avoid this kind of drift, this "color" will therefore never be admitted into the standard of the French bulldog.
To summarize in a few lines:
This color which in fact is not one is due to a dilution gene, a defect in fact which brings two main serious and painful concerns for the animal!
Alopecia:
Generally the concerns begin between 6 months and 3 years with hair loss; severe itching giving way to quickly infected skin!
Cyclic neutropenia:
Which is a serious immune disorder occurring in puppies causing infections, diarrhea, fever, arthritic, respiratory and skin signs.
As it is genetic there is no cure... The treatments are very long and very expensive, moreover the insurances will not cover the costs...
The only thing to stop this suffering is to stop breeding it; buying and selling!
Think of them and not of you!
I have my breeders tested for my part, so they pass a genetic test ( le Locus D ) to make sure that they are not carriers of this genetic defect so I have no surprises when the puppies arrive!
